Hafencity - 25 Hours Hotel Honey (0052)

Hamburg — Old Customs House

In my picture of the Spiegel building and the Deichtorhalle, I had already written that at the Ericusspitze, tradition and modernity can be experienced in several directions. Here it is the view along the Ericus Trench towards the Old Customs House, where today the 25hours Hotel Company and the agency Honey are accommodated.

I love the view of the beautifully renovated old brick building and the modern office buildings behind it. The flair of the Old Oustoms House is particularly noticeable in the evening hours, because during the renovation work, attention was paid to a beautiful illumination of the brick facade.

Tradition and modernity. At Ericusspitze you can experience this in several directions. This time I was on the southern bank and had a view to the Spiegel building and the Deichtorhallen. It was precisely this section of the modern buildings on Ericusspitze together with the beautifully lit Deichtorhalle that I found particularly exciting.

Behind the Deichtorhalle a spotlight shines into the sky and it is not so easy to see some stars of the constellation Big Dipper above the building. It was once again a special moment for me on this clear evening. read more or write a comment …

Hamburg - Baumwall im Nebel (0076)

Baumwall in fog

Contrary to my fog-photographs, which I published last week, this black-and-white photograph comes along. Actually, the fog was as colorful as it was when we took the picture of the marina.

In this photograph of the waterfront promenade at Baumwall, however, I would like to reduce the subject to the strong contrasts of the floodlights and the diagonally sloping lines of their posts. Again the fog helps to make many restless elements disappear from the background! Only very weakly one can still see the subway sign in the background.

Colorful Fog

What a splendour of colour in the early morning hours at the harbor front in Hamburg!
The more or less white lamps on the promenade, the orange sodium vapour lamps on the jetty and the strong blue of the lights of the tourists boats. Everything mixes in the fog to a fantastic »color soup«, which I have never experienced before.

Here I was in the right place at the right time and can bring a fantastic view of Hamburg to my photo friends and visitors of this website. Enjoy the view, please click on the picture to enlarge it!

Cap San Diego & Überseebrücke (0061)

Cap San Diego and Überseebrücke

On the pontoon of the Überseebrücke in fog, the sky behind the Cap San Diego is bathed in a strong blue by the excursion boats, from which only the Überseebrücke is illuminated in white.

I love this mystical atmosphere, in which the surrounding buildings have disappeared completely in the fog and only the rear lighting of the Cap San Diego shines out.

Duckdalben im Nebel (0060)

Duckdalben in the fog

Überseebrücke at dawn in the fog

It was a mystical mood this morning. The harbor of Hamburg lay in dense fog and there was no wind. Hardly a car or a passing ship disturbed the quietness that I had when I roamed the new waterfront promenade at the Baumwall. With this fog, I was drawn out to the overseas bridge. Arrived down on the pontoon, I hardly could see the river.

In the light of the lanterns on the pontoon the yellow cleats stood out and behind them the Duckdalben. Nothing was to be seen of the Elbe, only an occasional chortle to hear.

Minimalistic my image — you can hardly see the river this way.

Hamburg — Warehouse District with Orion above

Today we had a sunny day in the Hamburg area. The grey cloud cover that had covered the sky since the beginning of the year disappeared and so we had a cloudless day. Tonight was a very dark sky and I hoped to see stars over the city centre. That’s why I drove into Hamburg and stopped at the Zollkanal to discover motifs on both sides of the canal.

Next to St. Katharinen and Deichstraße I always look to the Warehouse District on the south side of the canal. Looking to the southeast, the gas plume of the power station Hafencity and the starry sky abouve the warehouse on the Brooksbrücke were the best motif today!

What a great atmosphere with the Orion over the Block E of the Warehouse District!
