Cap San Diego & Überseebrücke (0061)

Cap San Diego and Überseebrücke

On the pontoon of the Überseebrücke in fog, the sky behind the Cap San Diego is bathed in a strong blue by the excursion boats, from which only the Überseebrücke is illuminated in white.

I love this mystical atmosphere, in which the surrounding buildings have disappeared completely in the fog and only the rear lighting of the Cap San Diego shines out.

Überseebrücke at dawn in the fog

It was a mystical mood this morning. The harbor of Hamburg lay in dense fog and there was no wind. Hardly a car or a passing ship disturbed the quietness that I had when I roamed the new waterfront promenade at the Baumwall. With this fog, I was drawn out to the overseas bridge. Arrived down on the pontoon, I hardly could see the river.

In the light of the lanterns on the pontoon the yellow cleats stood out and behind them the Duckdalben. Nothing was to be seen of the Elbe, only an occasional chortle to hear.

Minimalistic my image — you can hardly see the river this way.

Hamburg - Speicherstadt (0076)

Hamburg — Warehouse District with Orion above

Today we had a sunny day in the Hamburg area. The grey cloud cover that had covered the sky since the beginning of the year disappeared and so we had a cloudless day. Tonight was a very dark sky and I hoped to see stars over the city centre. That’s why I drove into Hamburg and stopped at the Zollkanal to discover motifs on both sides of the canal.

Next to St. Katharinen and Deichstraße I always look to the Warehouse District on the south side of the canal. Looking to the southeast, the gas plume of the power station Hafencity and the starry sky abouve the warehouse on the Brooksbrücke were the best motif today!

What a great atmosphere with the Orion over the Block E of the Warehouse District!

Happy New Year

A happy New Year to my readers of my photo blog.

May all my readers share with me the enthusiasm for the beauty of my hometown Hamburg and the nature of our world and enjoy the experience themselves. This is what I wish you for 2018!

The Jungfernstieg was still festively decorated in Hamburg. It smells of mulled wine and roasted almonds and in sunshine, many Hamburgers had moved to the city once again, as if there were still a lot of Christmas shopping to be done.

I used the beautiful weather to experience a nice blue hour at the Alster Lake. This time the weather was fine for my — only when it was really dark the sky closed completely. What fascinates me about this picture is the color of the sky, with the dark contours of the rising cloud band. The sky behind it is still shining after the sun had just set in the southwest.

Yellowstone - Mammoth Hot Springs (3698)

This article concludes my report on my stay in Yellowstone National Park.

At the end we drove to the northern exit of the national park to Gardiner and from there we spent a day at the sinter terraces of Mammoth Hot Spings. Coming from Norris Geyser Basin coming from the south, one sees the terraces on the left hand side and looks directly at the main terrace with its white and yellow slopes. During the journey we were lucky enough to have had clouds in the sky and the more beautiful the effect of the sinter terraces in the total becomes apparent.

Lower Terraces

The next morning we had left early to enjoy the morning sun on the lower terraces. What colors!

Yellowstone - Norris Geyser Basin (3657)

Norris Geyser Basin is named after the former superindendent of Yellowstone National Park Philetus W. Norris. It is the hottest hydrothermal area of the National Park and extremely volatile. Again and again the hot springs and geysers change, new ones arise, existing ones dry up. Almost all areas are over 200° F hot and thus above the boiling point at this height. read more or write a comment …

Yellowstone - Grizzly Bear (3396)

Grizzly Bear

What a great experience! Only 100 yards away on the other bank of the Yellowstone River.
A grizzly!

We just came from Mud Volcano and wanted to drive along the banks of Yellowstone River a little bit, when suddenly an SUV stopped us on the way and the passengers ran down to the river bank. My son immediately shouted,»A grizzly!« and I turned our car around at the next opportunity. The bear was drawn to the north on the river bank and sometimes in the river. As we later learned from a ranger, there was a bison carcass north of the Mud Volcano. No wonder the grizzly bear didn’t notice us humans.
