Grand Teton bei Sonnenaufgang (1365)

Grand Teton at Sunrise

At our first visit to Schwalbacher’s Landing I know, I want to to be here a second time in early morning hours, when the sunrise will illuminate the Grand Teton. I dreamed of gigantic clouds over the Grand Teton, with it’s reflection in the Snake River. But during our time in the Grand Teton National Park, we had clear sky every morning and first clouds that arose in the afternoon.

Nevertheless I stood up at 5:30 and drove to Schwalbacher’s Landing. I was a bit surprised to found the last parking space and a lot of photographers at the Snake River! It was nearly ¾ of an hour before sunrise and I didn’t got to my favorite place. There were a photo course of 20 people with its teacher and he stood at the best perspective to view the reflection of the Grand Teton. I managed to take my shot between two other photographers, but without my wide angle lens.

The colors on top of the mountains where amazing! Even I had no clouds for my picture I have dreamed of!

At our way from Grand Teton National Park to our holiday home in the Buffalo Valley we pass an aerie of an Osprey. At the first afternoon we passed there, we saw the Osprey sitting on an old tree near the road. One day later my wife Astrid want to paint the fantastic view over the Buffalo Valley, so my son and myself decided to go »on eagler hunt« with our cameras.

String Lake & Leigh Lake Hike

»In early morning hours at String Lake. The water of the narrow lake is dark blue in front of us, it is mirrorless because there is no wind blowing. The majestic peaks of the Teton mountain range are perfectly reflected in it.
We enjoy the moment very much, especially because at this time we are almost alone on the trail. We see only another photographer on the lake shore, who also enjoys the view to the Tetons.«

In early morning hours we started to Jenny Lake. At August it’s high season in Grand Teton National Park and we’ve read in all hiking guides to be before 9:00 A.M. or after 4:00 P.M. at the trailheads. We also know, that the hike around Jenny Lake is one of the most loved ones. You are hiking with a terrific view to the Teton Mountains!
For us, this hike was something special, but more at the end of this post.

Grand Teton Nationalpark - Schwabacher's Landing (0901)

Grand Teton National Park — Schwabacher’s Landing

After our first week in the Teton Valley west of the Teton Range, we switched over into the Grand Teton National Park (GTNP). We drove over the Teton Pass and went on to the Snake River at Schwabacher’s Landing. It was an amazing spot, even we had to wait that the clouds clear up. But after that the view to the Tetons with their mirroring in the Snake River  was even more dramatic. We missed this cloudy weather the following days, but a clear sky was even better than the mist from the wildfires just a few weeks later!

Goldene Stunde im Teton Valley (0735)

Golden hour in Teton Valley

| 4 IMAGES IN THE BLOGPOST | 2 Comments

At the end of a wonderful and cloudy but most of the time clear days we had a fantastic golden hour. Due to the dry grazing land the gold was even more visible. Just a week later we had the same light as we drove on the highway through the great plains within the Grand Teton National Park. Sadly we couldn’t take any picture!

Teton Valley (0655)

Typical America — typical Idaho

| 4 IMAGES IN THE BLOGPOST | No Comments

In the Teton Valley are so many properties that has grazing land for horses around there wooden houses. They are usually fenced with simple natural fences, as we have seen them again and again in the national parks.
And, of course, many Americans have a flag pole in the garden. I had to capture these typical features for Idaho and the USA in a few pictures.
