U-Bahn Hafencity Universität (0015)

For a long time, the Hafencity Universität stop was the terminus of the U4 underground line in Hamburg. With the opening of the new station Elbbrücken, the trains only pass through here. But what has remained is the wonderful light installation. The light cubes on the ceiling illuminate the platform in white, but the ceiling and the side walls of the subway station alternate regularly in bright colors. Blue, green, red, violet…

I also like to think back to the Westfriedhof subway station in Munich, which I photographed once in 2015. But the light installation there is different. Blue fluorescent tubes illuminate the side walls and in three different areas the lampshades are in yellow, red and blue. But this is best seen in my pictures in my Munich portfolio.

The special feature in Hamburg is not only the constant change of colors, which bathe the whole station in color. On weekends and holidays between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. there is a light show on the hour with background music, the Hochbahn calls it »U4 — Light and Sound«. For operational reasons, however, the music is only played above the platforms in the entrances. It’s worth a visit!
