Alsterfleet mit Heiligengeistbrücke

The Alsterfleet with a view of the Heiligengeist Bridge. On the left is an old finance building (Oberfinanzdirektion), which has been converted into a luxury hotel and will be opened in 2019 as Fraser Suites. On the right is the Hotel Steigenberger, which was built directly over the western bridgehead.

It’s always interesting to see what’s new in Hamburg when you walk through the city with your eyes open. I noticed the building of the historical Oberfinanzdirektion from the subway station Rödingsmarkt, because the facade is set in scene with many accent lights. You can also see it from this side. The brick facade as well as the individual window reveals are accentuated with spotlights.

Today the Alsterfleet is the only navigable canal that connects the Alster with the Elbe. It runs from the Alster lock at the town hall to the Baumwall at the river Elve.
