Harvestehude - Mittelweg 125b

Hamburg — Courtyard Mittelweg 125

Almost every day I pass this little backyard in Harvestehude. Shortly after the Pöseldorf Center on the right side is this cobblestone courtyard. For my infrared photography the trees are so charming, even if I could not avoid to put the emphasis on the bumpy pavement in the foreground. In the background you can see the Magdalenenstraße, which runs through Pöseldorf parallel to Mittelweg.

Grasengrund and half moon in Infrared

In the summer of 2018 I was frequently commuting between Soltau and Buchholz for 2 months. Due to a construction site closure of the street towards Soltau I had to drive mostly the small road (Grasengrund) between Deimern and the B3 — a road which is long distances laid out as a birch avenue. I had known for a long time what this birch avenue would look like as infrared photography, but there had to be an almost cloudless sky, because otherwise the contrast between the treetops and the black of the sky would not be given.

One Sunday at the end of July I finally had the right weather. Only when I could see the motive on the display of my camera, I discovered the moon, which shone to my luck also still in the middle over the avenue! In addition a few veil clouds, which only made the motive more interesting.

Othmarschen - Christuskirche (I)

Christus Church Othmarschen (Infrared)

During my walks through Othmarschen in spring 2018 I also came to the Christus Church on a Sunday. It is beautifully situated on a park-like meadow plot between Reventlowstraße and Emkendorfstraße. Just with the trees I once again found beautiful infrared motifs in it.

I always like to photograph my infrared pictures under the canopy of trees to give my motives a natural frame. The leaves illuminated from the back always give such interesting nuances in infrared. On this day, the condensation trails on the sky also offered an exciting addition.

Othmarschen - Röperhof (0049)

Röper farm (Infrared)

Some of my readers have already asked me if I still do infrared photography at all. The answer is simple: »Yes«.
These days I have found unpublished pictures from last year in my photo library and I am simply showing them now, before the 2019 infrared season starts.

The old Röper courtyard in Othmarschen is hidden right above today’s northern Elbtunnel portal. Until the fourth tube was built, the Elbtunnel began a few hundred meters further south, i.e. the old farmhouse had been directly near the motorway since the 1970s. Today there is a young park in the east of the farm with extensive lawns. read more or write a comment …

In the fireplace room of the Chamber of Crafts

The fireplace room of the Chamber of Crafts is particularly suitable for small discussions, group work or as a conference office. I quote from the pages of the Chamber of Crafts:

This room is named after the tiled stove that was built in 1915 after a model from the Hamburg Museum of Decorative Arts. The Hamburg building and landscape motifs on the original tiles in front of a tiled wall with symbols and coats of arms of the various guilds also date from this period.

Commissioned Work — Halls of the Chamber of Crafts

| 10 IMAGES IN THE BLOGPOST | No Comments

During the last weeks I had several appointments in the Hamburg Chamber of Crafts to photograph their halls and foyers. The Chamber of Crafts will provide several websites with uniform picture material in order to improve its offer. So far, the room shots were rather snapshots, which all had different color temperatures and perspectives. I started to bring a »natural« perspective and coloring into my shots.

For me, the cooperation with the event service of the Chamber of Crafts was special. The rooms were prepared for me and the photographs, as was the case with the Great Hall above. For example, I’ve never seen the Great Hall empty before, but at the beginning of January I even got it freshly beveled in front of my lenses.

Kiekeberg - Schlachtfest (0273)

Slaughter festival at Kiekeberg

| 13 IMAGES IN THE BLOGPOST | 4 Comments

At the end of January, a slaughter festival is celebrated in the museum village at Kiekeberg, just like in the old days. During the slaughter of a pig on a farm you can get to know how a whole pig is used — and here the good pieces of meat are processed into sausages as was customary in the past.

But as always, I was drawn to the back of the museum, to the Pringens Hof, where the actors of the Living History bring the time 200 years ago back to life. Here they still worked without a mincer and cut the meat so small with simple knives or weighing knives that a black pudding could be made from it. It was great to be able to observe the conversations between the maidservants and the farmer’s family at work. Then once the bowl with the slaughter broth went around and everyone drank a little sip. read more or write a comment …
