St. Jakobi Kirche (1779)

Colorful Church

Only twice a year, in spring and late summer, the sun is so shining that it shines through the colorful rosette window into the interior of St. Jakobi Church in Schwabstedt. It is then bathed in shimmering colors. I could still experience it in the morning of the last day of my holiday, because the days before it was unfortunately cloudy in the morning.
I stood for a while in the dark church and looked at the organ gallery, in order to perceive sometime the colors there on the organ and the Musenbildern beside it. What an impression!

Slowly the light band wandered along the north side of the church until it ran completely over the balustrade of the gallery: read more or write a comment …

The St. Jakobi Church in Schwabstedt is a centuries-old small church on the beach edge of the Treene lowland. A photo friend of mine is there pastor and portrays this church in 2019 with a 365 days — 365 photos project under the title »Eye Prayers«. I couldn’t resist seeing this jewel with my eyes and bringing some photos with me. read more or write a comment …

Grün (1156)

Green!

To me it looks as if the willow was a large brush that had just been dipped into the paint pot in front of it.

We had driven our bikes east out of Schwabstedt to cross the geest to the Treene marsh. When we saw this green out of the corner of our eye, we immediately pulled the brakes! What was that? The whole lake was full of duckweed (I always have to think of Herman van Veen and his story of the duck Alfred Jodocus Kwack) and a ray of sunshine made part of it shine splendidly.

This small lake, surrounded by magnificent weeping willows and other trees, lies opposite the former Holbek open-air theatre, east of Schwabstedt. I had also walked over to the stage to capture the sight. Slowly the weeds take up the stage and partly grow through the seats. read more or write a comment …

Friedrichstadt - Regen (1015)

Rain!

| 1 IMAGE IN THE BLOGPOST | No Comments

This is how it can be if you have admired great cloud moods over the marsh landscape before. I was on my way to the station in Friedrichstadt, where my car was parked, when I was surprised by this cloudburst. Fortunately, it was only a local shower, the sun gave me this mad mood in the backlight!

I stood under a tree and was wearing a rain jacket, but my legs and shoes were soaked to the skin afterwards — but I had been allowed to experience a great rain atmosphere!

Friedrichstadt - Wolkenbild über Eiderstedt (0933)

Cloud picture above Eiderstedt

On one of the rainy days I was on the Eiderstedt peninsula by car. South of me, a wonderful wall of clouds rose above the marsh landscape, surrounded by an almost blue sky.

Of course I immediately ran to the right when I finally had a chance to stop. This cloud front had to be captured in a panorama picture. Only later I discovered the head at the edge of the left cloud. Do you also see it? read more or write a comment …

Eider Brücke bei Friedrichstadt (0690)

Eider bridge near Friedrichstadt

Since 03 September 1916, the Eider Bridge near Friedrichstadt has been in service after only two years of construction. With a length of 245 meters, it spans the largest river in Schleswig-Holstein at this point, connecting Friedrichstadt in North Friesland with St. Annen in Dithmarschen. Previously, a ferry had provided the connection here for several hundred years, a crossing cost just five pfennigs per person.

It once cost 560,000 Reichsmark, which would be the equivalent of just two million Euros today. The architect Friedrich Voss made such an impression with this construction that he was commissioned to design the high bridges on the Kiel Canal in Hochdonn, Rendsburg and Kiel.

I was just here in September, when the bridge closed again, i.e. the bascule bridge parts were lowered, in order to give the car traffic a free ride again shortly afterwards. But this was the opportunity for me to set the bridge in scene so beautifully symmetrically in the hard backlight.

Kraniche (0074)

Autumn arrives — cranes over Buchholz

| 3 IMAGES IN THE BLOGPOST | No Comments

We heard the whole afternoon today in the garden and also in the house crane yelling. It was great to see swarms of cranes of different sizes moving over us during the gardening work. But this afternoon it was a bit different. Here over Buchholz the calls of the cranes were suddenly louder and from the formation flight became a wild circling over our heads. read more or write a comment …
