Or do you see something else in the shape of this sandbank? At the head, by the way, is once again a seal colony.

Further north than the megaripple near Amrum Odde are these clearly more yellow sandbanks. The previously published picture with the seal colony can be seen here far up on the left.

I love these sand structures, built up by wind and waves from billions of grains of sand, yet forming such regular structures.

The sea sides of the megaripples north of Amrum are populated at their highest points again and again with small seal colonies. Here I have focused the motive on exactly this place and one sees on the small ripple structures well the seals lie. This sandbank is yellowish, which probably also gives the water here its strong green coloration.

You can see in this picture how shallow the water in front of the sandbank must be. There the ripple structures continue.

North of Amrum Odde lie these beautiful megaripples.

Sand structures that are carried around a head of the island and then form arc-shaped sandbanks that follow each other.

North-east of Amrum Odde lie many sandbanks, which only emerge from the sea during low tide. These sandbanks, which lie close under the water surface for a long time, form these beautiful ripple structures on their surface. Here you can see the ripples even in the tideways, which are colored green in the picture.

The whole picture is full of ripples! Somehow it looks to me as if you were looking at reptile skin.
