| 6 IMAGES IN THE BLOGPOST | No Comments

Vikoria Meienburg plays and reads the life story of Maria Sibylla Merian. Accompanied on the flute by Angelika Schmidt, according to the idea and with the stage installation of Waltraut Biester.

Maria Sibylla Merian already explored and painted in the 17th / 18th century plants and insects. Her special theme was the metamorphosis of the butterflies. Born and grew up in Frankfurt am Main, she later lived in Nuremberg and Amsterdam with her two daughters, where she was recognized and respected as an artist, researcher and businesswoman. At the age of 52, she set off for her expedition to the distant Surinam, to the Dutch colony, where she also shared the life of black and Indian slaves. In 2017, her death is celebrated for the 300th time.

Landscape Park Duisburg North

Half a day, Astrid and I stayed with a friend at the Landscape Park Duisburg North (LaPaDu). While Astrid sketched and later came to us at the blue hour, we ran around the blast furnace 5 and I gave a photo course. The views from up there in about 70 meters high are simply exhilarating, even if we had a rather dull cloudless sky.

At the blue hour it was exciting. From the west, some light clouds came over the sky and made it interesting for our photographs. The blue accent lights on the crocodile fascinated me.

Museum of Industrial Culture Osnabrück

The Haseschacht building from 1873 has a very close connection to the industrial heritage of Osnabrück. At this place there was a former colliery, where they produce stone coal between 1875 and 1898. The very short duration of the service was due to water infiltration. After closing the coal mine this building was converted to a residential building for the coal workers, but declined after the 1960s without further use. It was not until 1985 that the building was first secured and then transformed into the present-day Museum of Industrial Culture in the early 1990s.

At the time of coal mining in Osnabrück, the Hasenschacht building was used to house the machinery for the operation of the mining industry. Today, a permanent exhibition on the industrial history as well as many exhibits from the machinery of the coal mine can be seen. Access to the former tunnel is also possible here.

Tating — Peninsula Eiderstedt

The St. Magnus church is widely visible slightly elevated above the small town of Tating in the middle of the peninsula Eiderstedt. Coming from the west, you drive straight on to the church tower. I have always admired the beautiful slender shaft of the church tower.
The predecessor of today’s church dates back to 1103. It is said to contain parts from the 12th and 13th centuries and has always been extended until the 17th century, most recently with the church tower.

Luckily I have many clouds on that day that create the necessary background for the dark painted church tower and bring a dramatic effect into the picture.

Seal Safari

On a Saturday morning Astrid and myself went from Hamburg to the Wadden Sea near the island of Pellworm. We where invited by Wilfried Dunckel, who has organized a very special event. With a small motor wessel we where allowed to set foot on one of the great sands west of the North Frisian Islands.

Equipped with large tele-lenses, we went out into the Wadden Sea to the Norderoogsand. Soon a large seal colony appeared on the dry sands.
