A pack of wolves in the wildlife park

For a long time the wolf pack in the Wildlife Park Schwarze Berge was on my wish list for a few photos. Certainly because it is a very difficult environment to photograph the wolves. A wooded area prevents the view of the wolves and shades the whole motive very far. When the sun is shining, the contrast is quickly too high to make proper animal portraits. So it was even nicer for me to have borrowed the great telephoto lens with which I had already photographed the storks in Schwabstedt and the seals on the seal safari. Almost all of these pictures here were taken with 560mm focal length.

The pack lay almost only on a small clearing in the middle of the area. I could take some pictures of the upper lookout, like here the backlight portrait of the wolf.

But I took most of the pictures from the lookout below, here I could observe the whole pack over a longer period of time, how the animals were dozing (below) or looking attentively (cover picture).

A few hours before they were a little more awake, maybe because they were waiting for the feeding …
